Welcome Sabrina Lawley, AuD!!

Sabrina Lawley, Au.D., a long-time Alabama native, has recently joined Southern ENT as a full time audiologist. Dr. Lawley has a wide range of experience in all aspects of audiology care and is now seeing patients in our clinic. Click here to view Dr. Lawley's bio on our provider page.

We sat down with Sabrina to ask her about her interests in the audiology field as well as some questions to get to know her a little better. You can read the interview below!

Dr. Lawley, tell us a little about yourself.

I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I'm very involved at my church with different ministries mainly with the young adults.  I really enjoy being active, but also enjoy reading.  I don't have any children, but I do have my dog Tyson, who is 3 years old, weighs 13 pounds, and acts like a guard dog.

What is your favorite part of your job as an audiologist?

The moment when people realize how much they've been missing out on.  Hearing loss is typically gradual so most people don't notice they have hearing loss, but when they start wearing hearing aids they hear all those sounds they haven't heard in awhile, like their grandchildren's voices or their spouse's voice.

What ultimately drew you towards Audiology as a career?

Honestly, I had no idea what route I wanted to take, whether it was audiology or speech language pathology so I applied to both programs at different schools.  My faith is a big part of my life and it was very apparent that the Lord was leading me to audiology at South Alabama.  Looking back, I'm extremely grateful for being led there and the opportunities that were given to me while I was there that led me to where I am today.

What changes can patients expect in our Audiology department?

Not too many changes, but the two main ones are that I will be adding new options of hearing aid manufacturers that a lot of my former patients have had success with. Also we will be hopefully adding some new equipment that will help in fitting patients to make sure that their hearing aids are even more tailored for them and their hearing loss.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I absolutely love coffee and so I enjoy finding new coffee shops that are specific to Birmingham, which, I think we have some of the best coffee shops here.  I also enjoy trying new restaurants in Birmingham.  Typically, once a month I will go out to dinner with a few friends to try a new restaurant because we have so many great restaurants.  Then, depending on the weather, if it's sunny outside I will want to be outside whether it's running or going on a hike on a new trail.  If it's rainy, I will most likely be inside either binge watching the shows that are on my list or reading.

How about a favorite vacation spot?

The beach and I'm very partial to the gulf coast.

Last one: What's your favorite book and/or movie?

Movie-wise I would say most anything Marvel.  I have a few favorite books, but not one specific that I would say is my favorite.
